WHAT WE NEED, AND WHY

Musica Sacra is seeking donations to support its performances and other activities.
We are renowned for offering fine musical and artistic opportunities to the highest possible standard: opportunities to hear some of the world’s greatest music performed by one of New Zealand’s finest choirs and conductors. We maintain a centuries-old musical tradition. To continue to do this with artistry, excellence and innovation for our audiences, our financial foundation must be sure. The choir’s considerable successes since its foundation in 1998 are built not only on the dedication and hard work of our singers, but also on generous gifts from individuals, families, community groups, businesses and trusts.
The costs of running the choir are high. Over the course of a year the
expenses—printing, advertising, venue hire, music hire and purchase, lighting, transport, insurance, tuning and maintenance of our chamber organ, website hosting, office expenses, engaging orchestras, instrumental and vocal soloists, hospitality, and retaining the services of a professional organist and conductor—add up to many, many thousands of dollars.
While ticket sales are important, they will never cover the true costs of our performances. Therefore we are dependent on the generosity of friends like you. Your support is vital to continuing the tradition of excellence that Musica Sacra has established.
TWO EXAMPLES OF GENEROUS GIVING

In 2006 Musica Sacra was able to purchase the beautiful 1981 Mander chamber organ that had first been played by John Scott at the Royal Wedding of HRH The Prince of Wales and
Lady Diana Spencer in St Paul’s Cathedral, London, accompanying Dame Kiri Te Kanawa. Generous donations from the Chisholm Whitney Family Charitable Trust and from the estate of the late Donald Barriball (after who the organ is now named) made this invaluable acquisition possible, and the organ is now heard regularly accompanying the choir in concerts, services and recordings.
In 2007 the choir received a substantial grant from the Donny Charitable Trust to fund the production of a third commercial CD recording, Christmas a Cappella II, a sequel to our
2001 release, Christmas a Cappella, which was number one in the classical charts.
Such generous philanthropy, from both private individuals and organizations, enables
Musica Sacra to flourish and to grow our audiences, repertoire and reputation. With your help, the choir’s musical achievements and future contributions to the community will be enhanced.
